Employees could use their own sneakers if they met specific requirements, or they could buy either of two specially developed KLM navy sneakers, designed by Filling Pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"641\" height=\"614\" src=\"https:\/\/aerospaceglobalnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/240409-452.jpg\" alt=\"KLM crew wearing sneakers\" class=\"wp-image-41070\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aerospaceglobalnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/240409-452.jpg 641w, https:\/\/aerospaceglobalnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/240409-452-300x287.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo: KLM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>KLM said the policy shift was in response to staff demand for more comfortable work shoes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome colleagues who wear pumps would like an alternative,\u201d KLM stated. \u201cWearing sneakers under a uniform is becoming more common among airlines and is in line with current times.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline conducted a pilot before introducing casual footwear, which showed that wearing sneakers improved employee well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-6-xl-font-size\">Despite practicality, many airlines still stick to their heels&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While cabin crew uniform standards often require heels, these are not the most practical footwear for cabin crew\u2019s primary responsibility: supporting aircraft emergencies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heels can damage escape slides and must be removed, potentially leaving cabin crew barefoot while assisting passengers on the ground.
