Controllers here are responsible for everything happening on the airfield: take-offs, landings, runway crossings, <a href=\"https:\/\/aerospaceglobalnews.com\/tag\/taxiway\/\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">taxiways<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, and aircraft moving in the circuit pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At larger <a href=\"https:\/\/aerospaceglobalnews.com\/tag\/airports\/\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">airports<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, tower operations are shared between several controllers. Radar controllers in this phase manage aircraft as they climb out of or descend into airports (sometimes via <a href=\"https:\/\/aerospaceglobalnews.com\/news\/holding-patterns-used-designed\">holding patterns<\/a>), guiding them through Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs) and Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They operate within controlled airspace surrounding airport clusters, sequencing traffic so arrivals and departures don\u2019t conflict. This is the cruise phase of flight, where aircraft are flying at higher altitudes across long distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sky is divided into Flight Information Regions (FIRs) and Upper Information Regions (UIRs) to keep everything organised.
